Palm Beach Daily News: Palm Beach to celebrate a century of women’s voting rights

This year marks the centennial anniversary of the Nineteenth Amendment, which secured the right of American women to vote.

That fundamental right, which men had long taken for granted, became a reality for women in August 1920, when the constitutional amendment was finally adopted after decades of struggle.

“It changed not only our country, but the world,” Town Councilwoman Bobbie Lindsay said at a council meeting last week. “It really was an important event.”

Following Lindsay’s suggestion, the council agreed to co-host along with Mayor Gail Coniglio a celebration of 100 years of women having the right to vote. The event is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on April 20 in the courtyard of the Royal Poinciana Plaza.
