Palm Beach Daily News: Loggerhead names rescued turtle after wife of Royal Poinciana founder

Palm Beach Daily News February 21, 2020

The Loggerhead Marinelife Center has named a rescued sea turtle after late resident Lillian Jane Volk to commemorate the centennial of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which guaranteed women’s right to vote.  Volk, who died in 2010, sought to preserve the architectural and historic integrity of Palm Beach and the Royal Poinciana Plaza designed by her late husband, John Volk.

The Royal Poinciana Plaza is sponsoring Jane’s treatment as part of its TogetHER initiative for female power and entrepreneurship, which does community outreach to organizations with a female focus.

Alexandra Patterson, the senior director of development and interim general manager of the Royal Poinciana Plaza, said “Jane’s adoption means so much because it allows us to celebrate our nearly 20 female-owned businesses and our ongoing commitment to TogetHER. What better way for us to celebrate female empowerment than with the original Jane who was most certainly central to Mr. Volk’s success.”
